fre:ac là một chương trình chuyển đổi audio và nén CD được tích hợp với các định dạng và loại chuyển mã phổ biến. Hiện tại chúng tôi hỗ trợ MP3, MP4/M4A, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, và định dạng file fre:ac.

fre:ac giúp bạn dễ dàng chuyển đổi các file audio từ đĩa CD thành các định dạng MP3 hoặc các file định dạng WMA mà bạn có thể sử dụng các chương trình hơặc các phần mềm để có thể chạy chúng. Chương trình hỗ trợ CDDB/freedb ngay trên đĩa CD cũng như định dạng văn bản của đĩa CD và có thể tích hợp các thông tin về bài hát vào ID3v2 hay các tab bình luận Vorbis.

fre:ac hoàn toàn miễn phí. Tuy nhiên, dự án của chúng tôi rất cần được sự hỗ trợ của các bạn để có thể hoàn thiện hơn trong thời gian tới. Nếu bạn thích phần mềm của chúng tôi, hãy đóng góp. Click vào biểu tượng đóng góp trong mục "Đóng Góp" ở khung bên phải để hỗ trợ cho dự án của fre:ac.

fre:ac snapshot 20110524 adds support for multiple configurations, i.e. you can define additional configurations sets in the config dialog and switch the active configuration from the main window. That way you can have different configuration sets for archival, mobile listening and other use cases.

Other notable additions include an improved preview in the CDDB match selection dialog, support for Ogg FLAC files and support for the .oga extension on Ogg Vorbis files. A lot of effort has also been put towards improving general user interface handling and stability.

The Mac OX X version is now built as an application package that you can start by click using Finder. The snapshot also adds support for the OpenBSD and NetBSD operating systems; the OpenBSD port is still very unstable though.

The Windows and Linux versions should already be quite stable and usable, so you can use them if you need one of the new features. But please remember that this is still an alpha snapshot and not generally suitable for daily work!

fre:ac version 1.0.19 has been released on 10th May 2011.

This release fixes a crash when decoding MP3 files as well as some other bugs. Besides that it also includes an update Ogg Vorbis encoder and translation updates.

Upgrading to fre:ac v1.0.19 is strongly recommended to all users of previous versions. You can get it in the downloads section.

A new snapshot of fre:ac is now available for testing.

Snapshot 20110409 adds support for reading and writing MP4 chapters. This enables you to create audio books with chapter marks that will be recognised by your iPod or other portable player. You can also split existing audio books into separate files for each chapter with fre:ac now.

The snapshot also adds support for the FreeBSD, Solaris and Mac OS X operating systems. However, all three ports are still very incomplete at the moment. On the other hand, Linux support has improved a lot since the last snapshot.
